A prince under a shamiyana on a takht, attended by servants & musicians. Popular Mughal , circa mid-17th century. Folio 33.2 x 22.9cm; image 21.7 x 16.8cm.
A contemporaneous Nataliq inscription on the reverse describes the scene: it is about being in a beautiful place,
"An evening seated under a Shamiyana on a Takht picking clusters of fruits
... presenting...Elephant and Horse...and playing Naqara (drum) and Karna (Shanai)."
With thanks to Robert J del Bonta, who kindly translated the inscription.
