Paintings of Indian peoples' trades and occupations by Bani Lal (1850-1901) brought together Provincial Mughal painting's attention to minute detail with European perspective as seen in the river, boats and banks flanked by hills on a distant horizon. His work is highly regarded with examples in British public collections such as the V&A Museum and British Library.
