Shri Nathji at Mangala Darshan. Nathdwara, circa 1830. Opaque watercolour with silver and gold on wasli. 19.6 x 13.1cm
Mangala Darshan occurs at Nathdwara's Shri Nathji temple in the morning, when during the winter the god remains in his bed quilt, as here, to keep him warm. During summer months he wears only a lighweight dhoti. Winter Mangala paintings are not at all common.
