Maharana Shri Jawan Singhji in 1831 reinstates as Pradhan (Prime Minister) Mehta Sher Singhji. Mewar, dated 1853. Opaque watercolour with gold and silver (tin) on wasli. 33.3 x 24.9cm
Maharana Bhim Singh in 1827 appointed Mehta Sher Singh (1788-1869) as Pradhan of Mewar. It is said that Mehta (Bachhawat) Sher Singh was an astute politician and known for honesty and integrity but he was not proficient in fiscal management. As a result, the borrowings of the state shot up and Maharana Jawan Singh had no choice but to bring back Mehta (Cheel) Ram Singh. However, in 1831, Mehta Sher Singh was reappointed as Pradhan.
With thanks to the kindness of Capt. Pratap Singh Mehta for his translation of the inscription and information above.
