Tantric aspect of Vishnu on his vahana (vehicle) Garuda within an orb surrounded by attributes of Vishnu. Marwar, circa late 18th century. Opaque watercolour with gold on wasli, pasted onto later paper. 19 x 22.8cm
The meaning of this picture is not certain but one idea put by an eminent figure with regard to Indian mythology is that the diminutive characters could be personifications of Vishnu's attributes, with the boys being gandharavas and the musician the divine sage and Vaishnavite Narada. Beyond the orb are possibly his physical attributes.
