Folio from a Ramayana: Lanka secured Ravana retires to the harem. Marwar, circa 1780. Opaque watercolour with gold on wasli. 19.2 x 32cm
A scene from the Lanka Kand of the Ramayana, the text informing that:
Having secured the bastion of Lanka, Ravana gave his ministers leave to return to their respective homes.
Ravana was pleased as he entered the harem.
Identified by text in the picture is mantri, the chief minister of the demon army. The harem is indicated by the disc bordered with stylised lotus petals in which Ranavana sits.
I would like to express my gratitude to Tarun Pant for kindly translating the text.
