Unidentified folio from a dispersed Rasikapriya. Malwa circa 2nd half 17th century 17th century. Opaque watercolour with gold on wasli. 20.3 x 17.5cm

The text to the reverse in which the episode described is of Radha dressing as Krishna does not match with the picture. This is not so unusual in Indian miniatures with text and is possibly due to the scribe, often otherwise unconnected with the painting, mistakenly using inappropriate text. Consequently we do not know which part of the Rasikapriya is pictured. Interestingly it could easily be mistaken as an illustration of ragamala Dhaneshri Ragini.

With thanks to the kindness of Narmada Upadhyaya for a translation of the text.
