Lady bathing at a palace riverside accidentally reveals her modesty. Provincial Mughal at Lucknow, circa late 18th century. Opaque watercolour with gold on wasli mounted on a contemporary album page. Folio 29 x 20.8cm; image 19.8 x 12.4cm
Very finely painted with minute refined detail particularly the flowering lotuses in the swirling river and dainty flowers on the bank, in the birds entering and leaving the dovecote below the overhanging balcony and in the bedchamber above with its gold vessels in arched wall niches.
