Folio from a ragamala series: Vilaval Ragini. Jaipur, circa 1820. Opaque watercolour with gold on wasli. 17 x 12.8cmOn the back of this refined painting is a hand-written English description correctly naming the ragini although rather fanciful thereafter - the principal iconography for this ragini is often (given the many variations in all ragamala illustrations) a lady looking at her reflection in a mirror. It is sometimes - as here - known as Bilawal Ragini.
