Ramayana scene: on the terrace of a royal palace Hanuman kneels as he massages the calves of Rama who sits on a low throne alongside his consort Sita. Beside the divine couple on a low table-stool rests Rama's quiver which is empty of arrows. To their rear stands Lakshmana with a morchal (peacock feather flywhisk), at eaither side are chauri (yak tail flywhisk) bearers wearing crowns so therefore of elevated status. Jaipur circa 1860-80. Opaque watercolour with gold on wasli. 33.3 x 24cm.
