There is a Nara and Narayana pair of murtis or icons (for this avatara there can be either one or both in representations of the twin brothers) in the Vishnu temple at Badrinath in Garwhal - which is referred to on the painting's reverse. Here we see the Vishnu murti with Nara and Narayana at either side waving chauris (yak tail fly whisks)
