Folio from a Jain Kalpa Sutra manuscript. Arishtanemi's kavalajnana (enlightenment) and moksha (liberation). Circa 2nd half 15th or 16th century. Opaque watercolour on warqa. 11 x 26cm.

Arishtanemi a.k.a. Neminath was the 22nd jina or tirthankara.

Shvetambara Jains believe the Uttaradhyayanasutra contains the last teachings of Mahavira (Jainism's founder), the 24th and last jina . It is concerned with the rules of behaviour that govern Jain monastic life.
