Thakur Jagat Singh of Mehrun riding horse attended by huqqa bearer and footsoldiers. By a Ghanerao artist at Ajmer. Opaque watercolour with gold on warqa. Circa late 18th century. 30.4 x 24.3cm

The inscription on the reverse reads -[?]- anopsingh jagatsingh referring to Anup Singh, 4th thakur of Mehrun in Ajmer and son Jagat Singh, 5th thakur. It is not unusual for a painting's inscription to refer to a subject's father and even grandfather. The V&A has an earlier painting of a thakur ( IS.12-1978) also made in Ajmer by a Ghanerao artist.
