Liqqa kar (court recorder) inscription in devanāgarī script on the verso reads: motae ji shri dayal das ji ri chabi kam usta isa ahmad ro agli nakal mafiq samvat 1836 mitti sawan sud soam. Translation: Portrait of Mohta ji Shri Dayal Das ji by Isa son of Ahmed, a copy of an earlier painting (also done by Isa), Month of Shrawan (end of July to mid August), on a Monday, 1779 A.D.
